Matt Harvey will not be in the majors to make the next start for injured Dillon Gee, but he could be ready to make his major league debut as early as Saturday. Terry Collins did not rule out Harvey being called up in the near future to slide into the rotation after letting Miguel Batista start at least one game.
Harvey is scheduled to make a AAA start on Monday vs. Toledo which would put him on track to pitch Saturday against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Citi Field. There is no word yet on the Mets intentions, but the possibility is right there in front of Mets fans’ eyes.
A debut on Saturday at home in front of hopeful Mets fans would certainly be a special occasion. Just imagine a packed house of 42,000 screaming Mets fans looking on to see their future ace. Should be an exciting game if he does get the call. But if he doesn’t, the wait to make his major league debut will not be too long. Harvey is coming to a stadium near you.
