Nets fans have heard this before, but sources say that Dwight Howard is requesting a trade to Brooklyn. It is believed that the Nets are the only team on his wishlist and the only team he would sign an extension with if he were to be traded. With Howard’s heart set on moving to Brooklyn, this could create a major domino effect in the NBA, as it would drastically increase Deron Williams’ chances of re-signing with Brooklyn.
The Nets are very likely to acquire Howard either through a trade this season, or during next year’s free agency period. Howard is doing all he can to fight his way out of Orlando and into the Big Apple. Of course, he could have made things a lot easier for himself if he chose not to opt in to the final year of his contract with Orlando last season.
In addition, there has been news of Brooklyn trying to trade for six-time All-Star Joe Johnson. The deal is not yet close to being completed, but there is active dialogue going on between the Nets and Hawks.
The most important piece of the puzzle is Deron Williams. There is a 50/50 chance he remains a Net, but sources say he is leaning towards re-signing. His decision will come soon and it will have an enormous impact on the franchise. Just imagine a team consisting of Deron Williams, Dwight Howard, and Joe Johnson. That would be a pretty good “Big Three”.
